It's amazing to know that there are still many people who believed that the world will end on 12/21/12 -- which is when an important phase on the ancient calendar of the Mayan people terminates.

Website December212012.com have even published an article on "How to Prepare for a Catastrophic Event On 12/21/12" and also offers tips on survival and advertisements for the needed gear -- from gas masks to first aid kits and hand-crank radios.

From time immemorial people tend to believe that world is going to end. It seems like every few years, someone comes out with a new doomsday prophecy, its become an epidemic from time immemorial.

Jesus said 'Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom – Matthew 16:27, 28.' As per Bible 1890 years ago, Jesus spoke to some people that some of them would live to see the end of the world and the day of Judgement. None of them are alive now, since more than 1790 years would have lapsed after all of them died and since the end of world and the day of judgement are yet to come, we can certainly say this statement of Jesus was nothing but a fib.

In Europe in the year 1000 AD many Christians believed in the above statement of Jesus and feared that the end of the world was very near made wide propaganda of this by publishing letters. On learning about this, many Christians went to priests and sought refuge.

A General with an army, upon seeing a solar eclipse, concluded, the end of world has begun. That is why the Sun is disappearing. Bit by bit, the whole world will come to an end.” He got frightened and ran helter-skelter along with his army. At the same time, many people, abandoning their relatives and property, converged to Palestine believing that Jesus will appear there to save them.

In the 1840s Miller, began to preach about the world's end, saying Jesus Christ would return for the long-awaited Second Coming and that Earth would be engulfed in fire sometime between March 21, 1843, and March 21, 1844. He circulated his message in public gatherings and by using the technologies of the day - posters, printed newsletters and charts. Moved by those messages, as many as 100,000 "Millerites" sold their belongings between 1840 and 1844 and took to the mountains to wait for the end. When that end didn't come, Miller changed the date to Oct. 22. When Oct. 23 rolled around, his loyal followers explained it away yet again and went on to form the Seventh-day Adventist movement.

In 1992, the evangelist published a book called 1994?, which proclaimed that sometime in mid-September 1994, Christ would return and the world would end. Camping based his calculations on numbers and dates found in the Bible and, at the time, said that he was "99.9% certain" that his math was correct. But the world did not end in 1994. Nor did it end on March 31, 1995 — another date Camping provided when September 1994 passed without incident. "I'm like the boy who cried wolf again and again and the wolf didn't come," Camping told the San Francisco Chronicle in 1995. "This doesn't bother me in the slightest."

Pentecostal pastor William Branham - who founded the post-World War II faith-healing movement preached seven sermons in seven nights, explaining the meaning of the seals and the seven visions he had received, leading him to predict that Jesus would return to Earth in 1977.

A Pew Research Center poll taken in 2010, around the time religious leader Harold Camping was predicting his belief the world was going to end, a substantial 41% of people in the U.S. believed Jesus would return to Earth by 2050.

To conclude: You can control people only when you inject fear on their mind. Whether its through terrorism or doomsday or through law or sin or heaven/hell or whatever, ultimate purpose is the same.

In your ignorance, whatever you believe in, whatever is your faith, is a by-product of ignorance, of fear, of society, of respectability.

Faith is not a virtue, and it is not a great contribution to humanity's evolution.

Faith is the greatest hindrance in people's search for truth. Before you go in search you have already been handed a secondhand dirty faith, and you are told that just this much is enough; you don't have to search, Jesus has done it for you, Buddha has done it for you. But Buddha has been drinking water, and my thirst does not get quenched. Jesus has been drinking wine, and I don't get drunk. How can Jesus help you by just having faith in him?

Faith simply means hiding ignorance, and it is very cheap. Truth needs great energy, great urgency, and a total involvement in the search.

Truth is within you, faith comes from outside. Anything that comes from outside is not going to help you. You cannot take it in. Truth is already alive in you, you don't need any faith. It is faith which has kept humanity ignorant. It is not a contribution to evolution, it is a contribution to INvolution. Involution means going backwards, not forwards.

Faith is always in the other -- in Jesus, in God, in heaven, in hell. It is always outside you, and truth is within you. Having faith, you are moving outside, farther away from the truth.

No priest wants you to discover that you are divine. Every priest of every religion wants you to go away, far away from yourself so he can exploit you.

The moment you know that you are yourself part of this existence -- and not only part but the whole of this existence -- that you are in your own right a buddha, no priest can exploit you. Faith is needed for exploitation.

Religions teach faith because they cannot help you to find the truth. They themselves don't know where truth is.

This faith has been the greatest obstacle for seekers and searchers of truth.

There are millions of cannabis receptors in the brain, so when scientists in Israel found that the human brain produced a natural endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter, they named this internally manufactured substance as "Anandamide," after the Sanskrit "ananda" or bliss. This molecule apart from performing various actions is also responsible for creating internal bliss, without using external means.

Although it is clear that acute administration of marijuana to humans produces intoxication with euphoria, there is a relative absence of acute withdrawal signs typical for other drugs of abuse. This lack of withdrawal symptoms may occur because cannabinoids are stored in body lipids and slowly released into the blood after self-administration has ceased.

For understanding you need to be an observer. While you are in love the observer is lost.

A child cannot understand what childhood is. When childhood is lost, you can look back and understand. Youth cannot understand what youth is. Only when you have become old and are capable of looking back, aloof, distant, then you will be able to understand it. Whatsoever is understood, is understood only by transcendence. Transcendence is the base of all understanding.

Somebody else is in trouble, you have space to look, observe; you can witness. You can give a good advice. When you are in the same trouble, you will not be so capable.

Any problem can be solved if even for a single moment you are out of it and can look at it as a witness. Witnessing solves everything.

But while you are deep in any state it is difficult to be a witness. You are so much identified. While in anger you become anger. No one is left behind who can see, observe, watch, decide.

Witnessing will make you capable of knowing, of understanding, of wisdom.

In real existence, things exist without any comparison. A tree which reaches four hundred feet into the sky, and a very, very small grass flower are both the same as far as existence is concerned. But you go and you say, "This is a great tree. And what is this? Just ordinary grass.” You bring the comparison in, and wherever comparison comes, comes ugliness. You have destroyed a beautiful phenomenon.

Mind brings the comparison. It says, "you are more beautiful." Can’t you simply say, "You are beautiful"? Why bring "more"?

Mulla Nasruddin was in love with a woman, and as women are prone to ask, the woman asked, when Mulla Nasruddin kissed her, "Are you kissing me the first woman? Am I the first woman whom you are kissing? Is your first kiss given to a woman?” Nasruddin said, ”Yes, the first and the most sweetest."

The mind wants to compare, because through comparison ego is fed, that "I am the first woman; this is the first kiss." You are not interested in the kiss – in the quality of the kiss. You are interested in whether it is a first or not. The ego is always interested in comparison, and existence knows no comparison.

One of the modification of the mind is called Viparyaya which means perversion.

Mulla Nasruddin used to visit a saint for many days. And the saint was a silent one; he will not speak anything. Then Mulla Nasruddin had to say, he had to ask, "I have been coming again and again, waiting that you will say something, and you have not said anything. And unless you say, I cannot understand, so just give me a message for my life, a direction so that I can move in that direction."

So that Sufi sage said, "NEKI KAR KUYEN MAY DAL: Do good and throw it in the well." It is one of the oldest Sufi sayings: "Do good and throw it in the well." It means do good and forget it immediately; don’t carry that "I have done good."

So next day Mulla Nasruddin helped one old woman to cross the road, and then he pushed her into the well.

"NEKI KAR KUYEN MAY DAL: Do good and throw it in the well."

If your wrong center is functioning, whatsoever you do goes wrong. You may think that you are doing good, but you will do bad. With all your good wishes, you cannot help. Whatsoever you do, read, behave, it will be wrong. You will move to the wrong. You have a center which is forcing you to move towards the wrong. You can go to Buddha, but something wrong you will see in him. Immediately! You cannot meet Buddha; something wrong you will see immediately. You have a focusing for the wrong, a deep urge to find wrong anywhere, everywhere.

What you are aware of is all that exists for you. This must be understood. Right now you are sitting here – don’t turn back and see – right now, there is a huge dinosaur standing behind you, but you are not aware of it. Does it exist for you? No. So it does not matter that such a huge animal is standing there, you are not aware of it, so it does not exist for you. Only what you are aware of exists for you. Right now, your awareness is limited to a small aspect of your life.

The whole aspect of spirituality means to become aware of everything that you are, so that before you go, you know life, you experience life in its totality. To live and to live totally, that is spirituality. So that you know life in all dimensions, you do not go just knowing a little part of your life.

If we have to use an analogy, let us say we turn down the voltage for the lights. Now let us say just one light is there. It just lights up only so much, and only that much we see. If you turn up the voltage, suddenly you are able to see much more because the light has spread. Awareness is just like this. Right now, your energies, your body, your emotion, your mind, everything is functioning with a certain limited voltage. You crank up the voltage, suddenly you start seeing so many things which were not in your experience until that moment.

In a way, to put it very simply, to put it technically, you need to turn up your voltage. You can turn up your voltage simply with your enthusiasm, but that will not take you all the way. There are other kinds of technologies to turn up your voltage in a certain way where all the time you are high.

People are going on thinking that life is going to settle tomorrow. It doesn't matter what you do. Even for Alexander the Great, conquering half the world, life did not settle. I don't know why they call him 'Great'. Probably they forgot his third name! Alexander the Great Idiot; He is because, at the age of sixteen he started fighting and went about killing people, unknown people, people who did not know who he was. What was his purpose in life? He went slaughtered thousands and thousands of people. Sixteen years of non-stop fighting he did. At the age of thirty-two he died a miserable death. He was so miserable because the other half of the world was yet to be conquered.

If a man has to go on fighting non-stop for something that is not even his, he must be absolutely insane; but it is this kind of people that you have made 'Great'. You are asking your children to read, to believe that this man was great. What is his contribution to human life? If Alexanders exist here, if your only intention is to conquer everybody in some way, conflict will be the way. This world will always be in conflict. Pain and suffereing will be the way of the world.

Even in history books, Gautama the Buddha is only a footnote, he's given just two lines. His whole life was spent for human well-being, but he deserves just two lines in the history books. Even those two lines he earned not because he was a Buddha, not because of his enlightenment, not because of his work, but because he was a king.

Everybody says that ”My childhood was just paradise,” and look at children. These children will also say later on that their childhood was paradise, and they are suffering. And every child hankers how to grow soon, how to become an adult. Every child thinks that adults are enjoying, all that is worth enjoying they are enjoying. They are powerful; they can do everything, he is helpless. Children think they are suffering, but these children will grow as you have grown, and then later on they will say that childhood was beautiful, just a paradise.

Nobody is seeking to be unpleasant consciously, but people are becoming unpleasant in so many ways because a large part of them is still unconscious.

You are happening as a compulsive being, not as a conscious being. That is the basis of all unpleasantness in a human being. Karma is deciding not about what happens. Karma is deciding how you experience your life. The quality of your life is always decided by how you experience, not by what you have around you. You can sit in a palace and be utterly miserable. You can be on the street and be joyful. So it is the quality of your experience, not what you have, which decides the quality of your life.

When you say meditation, you need to understand this is not something that you can do because, you can become meditative, you can become mediation. You can never do meditation. It’s a certain quality. If this quality has to blossom within you, if meditation has to blossom within you, if you cultivate your body, if you cultivate your mind, your emotion and energy to a certain level of preparedness, meditation will blossom within you.

If you create a certain atmosphere, meditation will blossom. If there is spring in the soil, if there is spring in the sunlight, if there is spring in the atmosphere around flowers will blossom, isn’t it? Flowers will not blossom because you sit there and peel them. So if you sit there and try to meditate, it is not going to happen. If you create the necessary atmosphere in your body, mind, emotion and energy, meditation has to blossom. Meditation is not going somewhere, it’s a homecoming. It’s getting back to your original nature. Instead of being on the surface you’re going deeper into the core. It cannot be done. But you can make it happen.

Everything that we are is what we take from this planet. I see everywhere in the world, people are talking about giving. I don’t know from where they give. You can only take – either you take gently or you grab. Did you come with your own property from somewhere? What is there to give? You can only take. Everything is offered. Take sensibly, that is all there is.
